Monica Ritterband

artist and designer

The artist and designer Monica Ritterband is wide-ranging both in terms of materials as visual expression. From small reliefs mixed of thousands of glass pieces to gigantic and elegant sculptures of polished, stainless steel, which are placed in public spaces. Musica, Humanes, Raindrops, Dancers and last COBBLESTONES, are some of the exciting and imaginative universes, which Monica Ritterband has created and travels around in. A world of motives, which has found its way to such different materials as porcelain, carpets, blankets, cloths, steel, glass and furniture fabric.

  • Born in Copenhagen 1955, self-taught
  • Has created several large decorations, i.a. a range of stainless steel sculptures for the municipality of Farum and latest a 40 m long steel frieze for Vejle Technical School
  • Has designed the porcelain range Musica for Royal Copenhagen. A range, which in short time has become a bestseller, and which is continuously developed and expanded. In 2004 the Humanes were lanced as motive on i.a. cloths from Georg Jensen Damask and in 2005 the carpet collection Dancers from Ege Carpets. And in spring 2006 a range of cobble tea light holders for Holmegaard's glass works.
  • The co-operation with Danish Art Weaving started in 2004. After a larger development work COBBLESTONES and COBBLESTONES PLAIN are presented in spring 2006. The inspiration for the modern and hard-wearing furniture fabric in combed wool Monica Ritterband has found in her love for the rustic and hand cut cobbles, which have now become an important part of her design expression.
